Why Rescue Me is such a successful television series

Denis Leary's widely acclaimed television series has been showing on FX for seven successful season. This comedy drama is based upon Tommy Gavin, a New York City Firefighter who is going through the struggles of his stressful job, raising his children, and getting back his wife and love of his life. Much of this series is based off of events that occurred on 9/11 which the main character Tommy was a part of in losing fifty co workers, including his cousin who at times haunts him with other victims. It has been nominated for many Golden Globes, and has won five. There are many things this show has to offer to it's viewers, from its sexual comedy, to its series drama and everything in between. It gives you a little taste of the lifestyle and struggles of New York Firefighters, and their lives after 9/11. This she demonstrates the struggles of alcoholism, and the stress people go through to get sober and stay sober. Adding humor to situations like this make it interesting, and inspiring to watch making people really relate to these struggles in a way they have never seen before. There are other things, like the family matter between Tommy, his ghosts, whether it be his brother cousin father, or fellow firefighters haunting him, they all conveys real life messages to him. These messages range from alcohol problems, to over coming your fears. Denis Leary not only stars in this show, but is also a great stand up comedian. This leads many fans that follow his stand up, to begin watching this show, which shares much of the same dry humor as his stand up acts. Another great thing that adds to this show is the sports. Everybody knows Denis Leary is a huge hockey fan, which explains why there are many scenes of the New York Fire Department playing games against cops which almost always ends up in brawls. Bringing sports into the show gives it a little kick and adds to the real life resemblance to real life situations mixed in with humor. Other television shows are very dragged out and over acted and dramatic. The great thing about rescue me is the realization of all the scenes in each episode. This makes viewers really feel like they are part of the show, and its almost real life scenarios making it more interesting and keen to the eye. No other show gets as deep into the whole 9/11 issues, while at the same time paying resepct and tribute to the incident in a way others would not be able to do. This series can go on much longer than seven seasons and still be very successful and keep just as many viewers as it did in the past.

Project One Reflection

In finishing project one I believe that although I struggled a bit through the process I learned many new things and submitted a better paper than I thought going into it. I will say I do not believe I got into as much depth that was asked for the project. In the future I will take what I have learned from the readings, and experience i had with this project. During the duration of finishing the project I struggled a lot with really putting time into it and adding detail in analyzing A Mountain. These are things I will work on as the class goes on. Entering the next project I will most definately have more detail to whatever it is I will be writing, also I will be more time oriented throughout the whole process making sure i am really putting the time in the project that it needs. From what I have learned so far from this class and the first projectI will use for the rest of my duration at Arizona State, and I will be using it in the real world with whatever career I am in. Things like this are needed in the outside world no matter what career you choose. I will be altering my writing process a lot from what it has been recently by researching more, and also going the extra mile to really get on top of my writing, and wrting to my best ability.

An Analysis of an image

This is the cover of Surfing Magazine after world famous American surfing legend Kelly Slate had won his tenth world championship of surfing. This picture shows the true love compassion and heart people have for the sport of surfing. Kelly Slater has been ruling the surfing world since the early nineties. Why did surfer magazine choose this cover? I believe they chose this cover because of the unthinkable talent and fame Kelly Slater had going for him after winning this World title. Surfing is becoming more and more popular everyday, and a lot more readers in the surfing world all have been following Kelly Slater ever since they got into surfing. Also the American flag Kelly is holding over him shows a great sense of pride in his country and lets people know he is not just some stoner hippy surfer traveling place to place just so surf. He represents our country proudly doing something that almost all people dream of. He is the best and people are always pushing themselves to be the best, and Kelly is a great example of this, as shown in the picture. Surfers may see this as one of the best issues of Surfer Magazine. It was the most talked about thing in surfing at this time and fit perfect for this emotional picture to be chosen as the cover, especially in a time when surfing is bigger than ever. Kelly is still competing to this day and it is him and many other professional surfers who shape the world of surfing everyday, hopefully this cover and these surfers will help get more people into it, because once you become a surfer you will understand the true beauty and joy of it.

What’s Really In Your Cigarette?

        

         More and more everyday people are beginning to smoke cigarettes, but do they really know what is inside that cigarette? The Wall Street Journal just released an article titled, “What’s really in your cigarette?” This article goes over the many ingredients inside a cigarette that many smokers, and non-smokers are unaware of. Don’t you ever wonder why there is never a full list of ingredients on the side of a carton of cigarettes? It is probably because the list simply would not fit. Some ingredients released in the article include, Glycerol, Propylene glycol, Cocoa and cocoa shells, Licorice, Diammonium phosphate, Urea, Menthol, St. John's Bread, Chocolate, Potassium sorbate, Prune juice and concentrate Levulinic acid, Angelica Root , Dandelion root solid extract. I bet most of these ingredients you have never heard of in anything. It is no wonder the big cigarette companies tried for years to hide these ingredients from the public. Wouldn’t you do the same? And lets not forget about Amonia too. Many people probably see this article and laugh at the fact that people are really dumb enough to be smoking these death sticks; however the other half reading this are everyday smokers who may or may not quit someday. I believe articles like these should be posted as frequently as possible to hopefully put an end to smokers and cigarettes containing horrible deadly ingredients. Even the paper used to roll these cigarettes is not just paper, it contain bleaches and glues that are harmful as well. Still today exact formulas for cigarettes are still kept a secret and if the big cigarette companies were smart they would keep if that way. Many wonder if these deadly toxic filled cigarettes will ever be abolished, my guess is no. I believe too many people n society are already addicted even politicians, and a law to make cigarettes illegal would cause an uproar in society and a major loss in money for the government, being as they tax cigarette companies almost more than any others. Considering all the deaths caused by cigarettes and all of their harmful long term affects you would think that the government would do something to stop it, but we will see no such thing, in our lifetimes at least. It is sad to think that knowing of the thousands or lethal ingredients inside cigarettes, and the known harmful affects they have that people still try cigarettes everyday, and for the most part become addicted.
